Jalapeno jelly originated in Lake Jackson in 1978.
The worst natural disaster in U.S. history was in 1900 caused by a hurricane in
which over 8000 lives were lost on Galveston Island .
The first word spoken from the moon on July 20, 1969 was "Houston."
El Paso is closer to California than to Dallas .
Laredo is the world's largest inland port.

The name Texas comes from the Hasini Indian word "tejas" meaning friends. Tejas
is not Mexican for Texas.
Texas is the nation's leading producer of oil, natural gas, beef, sheep, goats, wool, cotton, rice...and, oh yes, watermelons.
Today, approximately 18 million people live in Texas, only slightly outnumbering its 15 million cattle.
The Dallas/Ft. Worth airport is larger than New York City's Manhattan Island.

The first domed stadium in the USA was the Astrodome in Houston.
The hamburger was invented in Athens, Texas...
It all began on Athens' interesting courthouse square in the
l880s when Fletcher Davis, who owned a downtown cafe, invented the sandwich.
The delicacy was so popular that in l904 a group of Athens businessmen
raised enough money to send the inventor to the St. Louis World's Fair,
where the hamburger was introduced to the world.
The State animal is the Armadillo. . .
An interesting bit of trivia about the armadillo is they always have four
babies! They have one egg which splits into either four males
or four females.
